Ikaria is a Greek island in the North region of the Aegean Sea.

 

Ikaria is declared one of only 5 Blue Zones worldwide,

as it has lower rates of chronic diseases and a longer life expectancy.

 

According to tradition, it derives its name from Icarus,

the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who wanted to fly closer to the sun,and was believed that has fallen into the sea nearby the island.

 

Ikaria is well known for its traditional festivals, its slow pace of life, its warm hospitality, organic local foods, strong culture of music and dance.
